A bunch of different live tournaments are being postponed or cancelled due to the growing concerns of the COVID-19 outbreak, commonly referred to as the Coronavirus.

WPT Barcelona has been Postponed due to the Virus, with an official announcement on the Barcelona Casino website

“Following extensive discussions on the Coronavirus, Casino Barcelona and its partners the World Poker Tour and partypoker LIVE have together reluctantly taken the decision to postpone the upcoming WPT Barcelona festival which was due to take place March 27th – April 5th.

Like other countries, the Coronavirus is spreading in Spain and our priority is, and always will be, the safety and experience of players and staff. All three parties are currently exploring the possibility of holding the event later in the year.

Players who qualified online for the event via partypoker will have flexibility with their packages.”

Other tournaments that are closer to happening like the WSOPC at King’s Resort in the Czech Republic are still going ahead, with this post being made on the official Facebook page, titled: Safety measures and changes in tournaments in March

Governments are stepping in

Another large event was due to be held in Spain this month too, with Madrid hosting the Winamax Poker Open Grand Final.

This came cancelled due to government regulations stating:

“Following the measures announced today by the Spanish government, which includes a ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people and the recommendation to reduce travel to the strict minimum, Winamax, and the Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones will no longer be able to host the Winamax Poker Tour Grand Final. All tournaments initially taking place from 19th to 29th March have therefore been cancelled.”
