WSOP 2020 Main Event Winner Stoyan Madanzhiev Stripped of Title?!

New Online PokerPoker News

Daniel Negreanu and GGPoker are both in hot water again, after the latest news that there will be another WSOP Main Event for 2020?!

It’s pretty confusing to say the least, but the announcement came from WSOP that they will in fact crown a WSOP Main Event winner in Las Vegas. Offering an extra $1,000,000 for a winner take all match between the Domestic vs. International Champions.

Hybrid Online and Live Event

This event will be a $10,000 freezeout, much in the same way the regular main event normally is, whereas the previous event that Stoyan Madanzhiev won was a $5,000 re-entry tournament, where players could fire multiple bullets.

He even got this certificate, signed by Daniel Negreanu himself, stating he is the WSOP Event 77, No-Limit Hold’em Main Event Champion.

The winner of the bracelet and a cool $3.9M tweeted out to the WSOP page asking:

“So if I won the “51st Annual World Series of Poker Main Event” What will the December one be?
The 52nd
51.1
51 2.0
51 alfa
?”

DNegs Takes to Twitter

Daniel took to the twitter streets to straighten up his beliefs. He had this to say:

Always read the Terms and Conditions

WSOP apparently always had it in mind to run the full series in the fall. Meaning WSOP 2020 wasn’t cancelled, just postponed. Even though clearly the WSOP events will not run in full, they are making one last effort to have some kind of huge live tournament streamed.

Here’s the pretty boring shinfo they wrote in their orginal press release back in April:

Don’t Go Getting Covid!

With the final tables play being held live in Las Vegas, all players will have to take a Covid19 test. Seems reasonable right?! I mean we don’t want everyone in the game to get sick if they have this new strain of virus that affects elderly pretty seriously.

So what happens if you test positive?! Well, regards of your chip count, in fact even if you have 99.9% of the chips in play, if you test positive for Covid, you’ll get 9th place money.

So is Stoyan Madanzhiev the Main Event Champ or not?!

Personally, with nearly $4Million in the bank, I wouldn’t be having any problems sleeping at night about if my face is going to be in the Poker Room in the Rio alongside all the other previous champions.

However, this just seems like yet another annoying move from the people at WSOP and GGPoker. I mean this guy played out of his skin, with a background only in Spin and Go’s he fired off a bullet in the biggest poker tournament ever and managed to take it down.

He folded the Nut Flush on the Final table and was right too, I mean this guy is the new Chris Moneymaker! He has many people batting his corner for him, with big names in the Twittersphere standing up and taking the champions side with the likes of Sam Greenwood stating, we have the 2020 champion already!

Personally, I didn’t know too much about the Poker player that managed to take down the title, so if you want to learn a little more about his journey, what he plans to do next and how he got into poker. Check out this amazing podcast he did with BenCB!
