Tips for Beating Zoom Poker in 2020 Continued

New Online PokerPoker Strategy

Continuing on from Part 1 of this double act in Tips for Beating Zoom Poker we continue to share some valuable tips on how we will want to be adjusting to the player pools out there and the best lines to be taking in these spots we have reviewed.

Use Over-Bets for Max Value/Pressure

In this pot we started off betting fairly small on the flop but on this juicy turn card which now creates a tonne of straight draws as well as the flush draw already on board we are going to want to bet very big, this will gain us max value against a tonne of hands that aren’t going to want to fold on this card.

We don’t always have to have huge hands here to want to overbet though, we can do this with flush and straight draw combinations too to balance our range to include semi-bluffs.

In this particular pot though, we resort to Plan A… we have a good hand, we want to bet a lot of money.

Remember Ranges will be Narrow in Big Bet Pots

We started this pot with a tonne of equity, we have top pair, top kicker with the nut flush draw… show this to any Poker player and they will admit this is a monster holding and we will even have a tonne of equity against hands like pocket Kings on this board.

However! When we get our over-bet on this board called, what will our opponent have?

Well, they will need a pretty big hand or draw to call this bet too… overpairs and two pairs are not out of the question for flat calls on a board this dynamic, so we don’t really want to value own ourselves with just one pair on bad run-outs for our hand.
over-bets and then bad run outsAfter this bet got called we stopped betting and once the river came making a tonne more straights possible we opted to check back and just showdown our hand.

We could sometimes turn our hand into a bluff, but we will have many better hands to bluff with and our hand just has too much showdown value to even think about this prospect seriously. However, our opponent flips over pocket nines and our pair of eights hits the muck this time.

Lead on Good Boards for our Range

We will want to defend a pretty airtight range from the blinds as we mentioned, but pocket 8’s aren’t hitting the muck to a single late position raise ever. So when we flat call with these hands we are going to want to find some leads outs on good boards for our hands.

We are going to be pretty protected, meaning our opponent can’t raise us too often because we will have a tonne of sets, two pairs and straights on these low boards. So even if they have a better overpair than us in the worst-case scenario a raise on their part is unlikely.

The good news for us by using lines like this though is that we can get calls from a tonne of hands that we are ahead of, we also protect our equity by not letting our opponent take free cards and hitting on the Turn or River.

Find Check-Call Lines when Out of Position

Winning big pots in Poker isn’t the only way we win more money, losing the minimum in key pots is also going to improve our win rate.

With this in mind, we are going to want to tread lightly in pots when we are out of position as these are going to be the toughest spots to navigate our way to the River without getting outplayed or playing a bigger pot than we are going to feel comfortable with.

In this pot, we raise from the Hi-Jack and get called from the Cut-Off, So they will have a tonne of hands that interact with this board QJ, JT, AJ, KQ, KJ, Q9 89s. 55, even TT and JJ sometimes.

Now, we aren’t in terrible shape against some of this range, but we don’t have enough of a hand to want to bet all three streets either, so in this type of pot we are going to want to start with a check, this way we are limiting our loses against all these stronger hands that are possible and we are controlling the size of the pot trying to get to showdown.
find check-call lines when out of positionSo in this pot, the Turn action went Check-Check and then we lead out small on the River as a block bet.

We could have got calls from worse pairs like AT, J9, J8 etc and are limiting our loses against hands that might bet bigger if we check to them on the River like AJ, Qx and it makes it an easy fold if we get raised too.

Sum Up

Find Flop Check-Backs
This is going to help us balance our ranges when we check back to include some good hands and help us to play a little deceptively.

Make the Pot Big with Big Hands
Sounds simple right? But, still, players just don’t do enough of this, aiming to trick their opponents or get them to bet, but we just want to go to Plan A when we have good hands, put money in the pot!

We want to mainly be raising when entering the pot
Some exceptions though will be to flat call with hands that play well in single raised multi-way pots like suited connectors and small pairs.

Play Tight Ranges in Blinds
We are going to be out of position for the whole hand post-flop so we will need to play a tight range and look to pick up the betting lead with hands from out of position.

Squeeze Raising with Proper Sizings
Make them big! Get value and look to get players out of the pot, we should be looking to get these squeeze pots heads up.

Use Over-Bets for Max Value/Pressure
When we have strong hands or good semi-bluffs on dynamic boards we are going to want to use larger bet sizes and even over-bet, this will allow us to apply max pressure with our bluffs and get max value with our strong hands.

Remember Ranges will be Narrow in Big Bet Pots
We may have to shut down with some of our over-bets when we get called as our opponent’s range to call large bets is going to be pretty narrow and going to contain some strong holdings, so play with this in mind.

Lead on Good Boards for our Range
This will help us realise our equity and protect our hands when out of position.

Find Check-Call Lines when Out of Position
When you get a caller of your raises and have to play the rest of the hand out of position, look to check even with decent hands, this will help to get to Rivers without being raised off our hand.
