Don’t Defend from the Blinds Too Wide
Every hand in PLO seems like it should be playable, but we are going to want to be wary of playing too many hands. Look for connectivity and hands that can make nut flushes.
Avoid bad connectivity and low suited hands
It’s a bad idea to play too many holdings, as folding when you make a mid flush can be a tricky thing to do but they have little value against a value range of your opponent in PLO. Players will often have you over-flushed if a lot of money goes in.
Make your raises Pot Sized
Raising less than this will price in even the worst hands at the correct price, equities in PLO run much closer than hands in No-Limit Hold’em. The bottom 60% of hands will still have 40% equity against some of the best hands to raise so look to price at least some of those hands out by raising Pot Sized.
Re-steal with good candidates
Pick hands to 3-Bet and play aggressively from the blinds such as double suited connectors that can flop well and look to barrel if needed. This way you can win preflop with a weak hand and get value or look to play a bigger pot on good run-outs for your holdings.
Look to play big pots with AAxx
You will get players that will get married to hands like QQxx and KKxx and be able to play win larger pots for the times your opponents weaker range.
Even against the top 25% of hands, you will have around 67% equity with any raggy Aces and even more equity if you are dealt Aces with two suits or high card connectivity to go with them.
Only betting when you have a strong hand can get you exploited
Try to pick hands to mix up your checking range, as if we only bet with our huge hands we will find it hard to realise our equity with our medium-strength hands against players who know our tendencies to bet our nutted hands and check our other holdings.
Poker is always about being balanced so look to throw in some checks with some of the top of your ranges so our checks are not always weak.
Make Hero Folds on Rivers
Players will often be very nutted when making it to the river and still betting, so to combat this make some tight folds on the River rather than paying off our opponents’ tight range for firing all streets.
