Scott Seiver Talks Brunson, High Stakes Poker and Lockdown

New Online PokerPoker News

We cannot get enough of watching these Run It Back with Remko episodes and since PokerGo has now bought all the rights to High Stakes Poker these are the only times we get to relive the glory years of televised cash games, without signing up to PokerGo that is.

This weeks guest was Scott Seiver and our host Remko asked Scott loads of great questions, we got to find out about some of the longest sessions Scott has played, where he played for around 60 hours due to just feeling completely in the zone and unbeatable.

Scott also talked very highly of Doyle Brunson, as we re-live the moment that Doyle got fired up about folding a better flush than Jamie Gold in a previous episode and wasn’t in the mood to make a laydown when Guy put all the money in on the Turn with just Top pair and a gutshot draw. Doyle picked up a flush draw with his top pair and stuck the money in, later claiming that he had sat there all day and not made a pair, so I guess it looked like the nuts to him.

The thing is that the Godfather of poker probably knew right where he was in the hand, Guy flat called pre-flop, check-called the flop and then put in a big check-raise on the Turn card when he picked up some equity with his draw.

However, Doyle probably just knew that this is not how Guy played his big hands, often the Amateur would lead out big or bet huge on the flop if he had a big hand, so many players thought Doyle had just had enough, but that’s the Pro move, keep the businessman happy.

Bobby’s Room Talk

Scott tells some fun stories about how the games start pretty tame in Bobby’s room during the summer, but then one night the straddles will get kicked up, people will get stuck, the winners will want to keep the game big too and then the action just stays huge for days, weeks and even months to come.

When the stakes get high enough, one pair or a draw against an aggressive opponent is the nuts, maybe that’s what happened here with Sammy and Antonius facing off with just top pair against Sammy’s flush draw.
