The last time we updated you on the progress of the first heads up match of this Galfond Challenge, our hero Phil was stuck around €500,000. Since then he has been running hot and outmatching his opponent VeniVidi to the tune of nearly €200k.
Phil managed to win €110k and €140k in two of his most recent sessions against this tough German Pro. Whilst it hasn’t all been roses and champagne, Phil did give back around €70k in another session, but who would have thought he would be turning this hellish start around so well. Once stuck almost €1,000,000, Phil is now down only 16 Buy-ins, which in PLO is a pretty small loss due to the game having a tonne of variance.
Coolers make big pots
A lot of these hands, don’t need any explanation on how they got to be all-in pots, with this first one a shining example of a cooler board, Veni flopping a pair, flush draw and straight draw and Phil holding a straight, open-ended straight flush draw and a gutshot to the nut straight also!
As you’d expect all the money went in on this flop with Phil a decent favourite with 60% equity on this board, he managed to fade all of Veni’s outs even when he picked up two pair on the Turn and had extra outs to make a full house.
This is another hand that played itself, Veni holding an open-ended straight and flush draw with Phil holding middle set and back door diamonds. All the money went in but sadly for Phil Veni hit the Queen on the River which completed the straight, €40,000 over to Veni.
This was a wild one, Veni led the Turn, Phil raised and VeniVidi moved all-in with just a paird of 5’s and a gutshot…
Strange action indeed, Phil held and took down the €57k with his trip deuces in this one.
A little bit of classic boat over boat action to see us home here, with Veni flopping three of kind fours but with Phil hitting his Gin card on the Turn to make a Full house.
Veni proceeded to fill up on the River to make Fours full of Threes and Phil was more than happy to put the stacks in, Veni made the crying call with not much left behind and was shown the goods.
So that’s it, there are 7499 hands left to play, so hopefully, Phil can make a comeback and win that side bet! That would make for over a Million Euro Swing from being stuck over €900k to booking a win and taking the side bet down.
