Phil Ivey Returns to High Stakes Poker!

New Online PokerPoker News

Two giants of the game return to our screens in the most recent High Stakes Poker Season 8 episode! With the two Phil’s, Ivey and Hellmuth both joining the game.

Tough spot with Trips with Ivey vs Dwan

Tom managed to get in a big check-raise on the Turn with his trip fives in this pot, Ivey was going nowhere with the same hand but a King High kicker. Tom went big on the River for value and got snap-called by Ivey’s worse trips.

A cooler to kick things off, that Ivey uncharacteristically showed to Tom.

Solid Fold with Queens

Ivey was hanging around for a club in this pot, looking to make the second nut flush. Little did he know that would have ended up costing him even more money, with his opponent Daniels flopping the nuts.

Queens was too strong to fold on the Flop and once the Turn paired the King, it no made it much less likely Daniels held a King himself, so Ivey called once more. He did manage to ditch it on the end though, failing to pay off the slight overbet from his opponent.

Flopping the goods

A dream board for Ivey in this multiway pot came down giving him a set of Queens. Usually, you would have the equity locked up in this kind of board, however, with Brandon Adams holding the nut flush draw, it wasn’t all that cut and dry.

Adams ended up smooth calling Ivey down to the River and then ditching his one pair of Aces when he didn’t improve. If he wasn’t so deep stacked I could imagine a raise going in at some point with this strong of a holding, but with a huge amount of money on the table and Ivey’s range looking pretty strong in this multiway pot lead, Adams did well to minimise his losses in this pot.

Hellmuth with the goods

Hellmuth is known for his nitty cash game style, in this pot, he even checked back a blank Turn card for a little pot control presumably. But he found his nerve on the River and went for a small value bet that Tom couldn’t help pay off with his strong top pair once all the draws missed.

Biggest Pot of the Night

99.3% Equity is a pretty nice feeling in poker, failing running perfect cards Hernandez was a sure bet to win this pot. Daniels was getting aggressive and looking to push his opponent off on the Flop but then actually Turned a pair of Queens!

Seemingly a really good card for him he then started betting for value… the River brought an Ace, which you’d think would be a scare card for Daniels, but he bet out large once more, looking to get value from worse pairs it would seem.

His opponent hit him with the min-raise on the end, making it $60,000 to call and Daniels snap-called… an altogether strange hand.
