When play restarted on day 2 of this event he was sat in 4th position with 20 left and with over $200,000 for the winner and with over 54% of the prize pool allocated for the top four spots he was looking to make a deep run and hopefully be able to freeroll the rest of this costly series. On his stream he stated that he will be spending anywhere from $150,000-$200,000 on the SCOOP buy-ins this year, so a win here could mean really take the pressure off.
The Final table bubble was pretty brutal for Lex, with cruel spots and not much in the way of good holdings he was pretty much holding on for dear life, until a glimmer of light came through with a double up with his 19BB Re-Shove holding 66 got called by AQo and when he flopped a 6 it was pretty much a done deal.
Raise your edge owner and Lex’s personal Coach Bencb managed to knock a player out when there was 10 left so we saw the final table begin with Lex sitting in 7th place.
The tough spots would come early though with Lex defending his Big Blind in the first orbit of play with A3s and flopping a pair of Aces against the chip leader zazano.
Lex went into check-call mode, with zazano c-betting and then sizing up with this roughly half-pot bet on the Turn… things weren’t looking too good for Lex at this point, however, this could just be the chip leader’s final bullet to get Lex off a hand he is not willing to go all the way with, he could be semi-bluffing with a hand that has an 8 in it and some diamond draws would no doubt continue here.
So his opponent is going to be pretty balanced here, he will sometimes have the goods too though, with 55, 77, AA, A7s, A6s, A5s, 89s, AK, AQ, AJ, AT, A9, A8 all easily in his range and absolutely crushing Lex’s holding. Personally I might have found the hero fold here on the Turn, I mean even if we call this bullet, we are likely going to face a tough decision on the River and we only beat semi-bluffs at this point, and even against those we are splitting the equity a fair amount.
Lex made the decision he had to see another card against this aggressive opponent and I can see the reasoning for this with his huge stack wanting to apply pressure.
The river brought Lex two pair, which makes his decision even more weighted towards going with his hand because now he beats a bunch of holdings that had him beat on the Turn… He check-called a roughly 25% pot bet of 500,000 chips and zazano flipped over the bad news in the shape of a flopped set of 7‘s.
After losing this pot the talented Pro was still left with around 10BBs but was now the shortest stack at the table.
He would continue to battle with his short stack and picking up a few decent holdings to push with and win the blinds and wants. He managed to outlive both Wildace_hun and kimokh to lock up seventh place when he was dealt KQo with just 5BBS on the Button.
This is a clear all-in and it was once again against his nemesis zazano, who made the easy call with ATo. The flop wasn’t too kind to Lex with his only way to win the pot being to hit a 10 to complete his gutshot on this Ace high board. It was all over on the Turn though when another Ace hit and had Lex drawing dead.
This was a great effort from the Dutch Pro, facing off against the players that he confessed himself are leagues above him in skill, these elite grinders that remained have been studying and playing at the highest stakes for many years, whilst Lex’s focussed have included content creation, streaming and travelling.
Lex was awarded $41,995.80 for his valiant effort against this super tough field, and when the dust settled Bencb had a strong showing with a 4th place finish bagging himself just over $92k, Apestyles was next out getting $119,510.00 for his 3rd place finish… and it was no surprise to see Odonkor1 and zazano go heads up with them having nearly all the chips in play with 6 left.
