Is the Poker Boom Back?

New Online PokerPoker News

We have seen PokerStars really ramp up their efforts to make Poker great again lately. Whilst we saw many players move away from Pokerstars as a sponsor, players like Jaime Stapes, Daniel Negreanu and others move to sponsors like GGPoker and PartyPoker we are seeing a huge uptick in the Pokerstars recreational players recently.

As a poker player, this is always good, why? Because it brings more money into the ecosystem and allows for better games as there are new players at the bottom of the food chain, then more players are able to work up the stakes and games at all levels get bigger and better!

New Twitch Poker Record

We have seen the biggest Poker Stream ever by two Germans, one who is a youtube and twitch personality with a huge following known as Knossi, he has over 1,000,000 subs on youtube and has in the past presented some poker, done interviews and also some gambling content on his channel. The other is Knueppel and is a follower of Knossi who is a keen poker player that has some fairly sizable cashes and even won himself a car in a poker game in a casino!

Knossi struck up a deal with Pokerstars to stream him playing a $5k event as well as a $2k event, which he did. However, the popular German wanted something to giveaway to his community… at the time Knossi had around 25,000 viewers on his stream and PokerStars threw down the gauntlet…

If you get the biggest Poker stream ever… we will give you a platinum pass for one of your followers, with a little help from MontanaBlack another big German streamer the stream gets 60,000 views, which breaks Lex Veldhuis’ record set a few weeks prior by a few thousand viewers!

The obvious choice for the German entertainer was his longest follower Knueppel the platinum pass worth a massive $25,000! As well as some online tournament tickets! What ensued was pure run good madness, Knossi cashed in the tournament for around $3,000 but his long time fan Knueppel made Day 2 and got a chance to make a huge score!

The pair were celebrating money jumps as if they had just won the WSOP Main Event, fist pumps everywhere and the hype man Knossi seemingly needing some kind of medical attention he was so excited at points. We’ve often seen these kinds of heaters from our opponents at the table, but to view one live on Twitch was pretty crazy.

One crazy moment was the amateur player slow playing Pocket Aces, running into trips when he moved all-in on the Turn with his 4.5% equity, drawing to only 2 cards in the deck and then… BINK! The miracle Ace on the River.

The pair lost their minds with this one, jumping out of their chairs and screaming! This was the final table bubble and it only got even crazier. You can check out a short highlight video here to catch the main action pots!

Youtubers and Poker Pros Joining Forces

You may well know popular Youtuber, Interview, Fight Promotor and generally all-round hard man True Geordie from the UK, well he’s been getting some Poker lessons from Charlie Carrel and fighting the biggest players online in the Pokerstars summer series games himself!

He recently streamed a huge two-day event where he ended up winning over $11,000 with barely any knowledge of the game, now the terms and conditions of Pokerstars strictly states it’s only one player to a game, so Charlie is there to give advice in between hands, but when the hands are in play it’s just True Geordie battling the wizards and he came out pretty damn good!

Sadly in the end game with just 107 players left he came across a pretty tough hand where his Turned top pair was no match for his opponents flopped set.

The youtube comments alone show that this type of thing is really helping reach people that have maybe just never even considered playing online poker, “I have no idea what I have just watched but I bloody enjoyed it. 😁😁” Stuff like this is great to see and although Pokerstars get a lot of flack for their rake increases if they are using it to try and single-handedly make the Poker Boom a real thing again, I say good luck to um!
