Bill Perkins Antes Up!
You will know this guy from many high stakes Poker TV shows like the Big Game and also from deep runs in super high roller events like the One Drop. Well, Bill has agreed to play Phil at stakes of $100/$200 over 50K hands or until someone loses $400,000.
To juice the pot a little Galfond is offering a 4/1 side bet of $200,000 so if Perkins manages to triumph he will scoop not only his winnings but the $800,000 side bet too! So we are looking at a potential $1,200,000 swing here for someone.
Now we are not sure exactly on the rest of the terms for the match, I’m not certain how much PLO Perkins has played but Galfond did state that he would consider playing No Limit too if the right player came to the batting plate, so maybe they will play some No-Limit hold’em instead.
Coach Vs Coach Challenge
Phil Galfond had to juice the coach vs coach offer to include a side bet of 5/1 to get some action, JNandez real name Fernando Habegger former UpSwing coach and estranged colleague of Dolk Polk wanted some of this action.
He initially offered to play at $10/$20, but then later taking up the offer to play $100/$200 with a side bet of $1,000,000 on the line to JNandez’s $200,000.
I guess the offer was either too good to pass up for someone that is nonstop in the PLO lab to play for more than a Million dollars versus someone who barely plays anymore.
What is in store for us Rail Fans?
Galfond has said that he intends to have 6 matches most of which will be PLO at stakes of at least $100/$200.
He is also stated that some finer details will be released in the next coming days, we look forward to seeing the roster for the total matches.
There are rumours that the very successful LinusLove may be in the sights for a match after a tweet hinted one of the matches is with an online superstar. Linus has reached out with an offer to play half PLO and half Hold’em.
This matchup would be a very exciting one to watch indeed, with Linus at the top of the food chain when it comes to Hold’em cash games for quite some time now.
Will Galfond still have what it takes to compete with the best?
Yet to begin any prep work for his matches Phil had this to say about the matches:
“My strength has always been adjusting to specific players, and in order to do that properly, we’ll have to start playing,” he said. “I intend to work hard. I’m an obsessive person, so a series of challenges like this is exactly what I need to focus on my game again.”
He himself doesn’t know if he can still compete at these very high levels, but I imagine he is still not going to be any pushover, these heads up battles are going to be very meta heavy and it will be whoever puts in the most work studying the sessions after each is played that will be able to pull ahead in the match.
It’s going to be an interesting year for online Poker.
