Phil Galfond has begun his third heads up challenge, with Bill Perkins having a pretty relaxed approach to their game and needing to fit it around his busy lifestyle, it’s left Phil with an open slot to start his game against one of his other opponents.

Things got off to a pretty crazy start during the pairs challenge, with the second session seeing some insane action… Phil was up around $200,000 at one point, let’s see some of the most interesting hands that went down.
One pair good for $60k
Phil came out swinging and fired the last shell of his triple barrel bluff on this blank River, with ActionFreak having straight blockers but also holding blockers to the missed flop flush draw and just top pair to look him up with, I can imagine this was a pretty tough call to make. But he went with his gut and took down the first huge pot.
Deceptively Dangerous River
Phil took a shot of calling just over $8,000 on the Turn to hit this miracle River that would see him with the nuts. The commentator actually stated the card was a blank and that’s how deceptive this was, with ActionFreak moving all in for value with top two pair after the flush draw missed. Phil gets to click call and collect nearly $80,000
Two pair and the Nut Straight
Both players flopped huge equity here, with a wrap in Phil’s hand on the Flop and ActionFreak holding top pair and the Flush draw… we saw a spicy Turn card that gave Phil the straight and made his opponent two pair.
Needless to say all the money went in and Phil dodge the full house and flush draw of ActionFreak, good for a little over $80,000.
Aces no good
As this pot unfolded, the question was asked, what do you do here with Aces?! Well, Phil ended up calling this River shove from ActionFreak but got shown the low straight in his opponent’s hand.
This is one of the most questionable hero calls of the session, Phil blocks the missed nut flush draw and straight draws like KQ in his opponent’s hand, whilst holding a 9 has some value his opponent could have a number of other holdings to get value with here, so this is probably a fold in my eyes, I just can’t picture many bluffs here.
After all was said and done ActionFreak pulled back the $200,000 and the pair were pretty much level pegging at the end of the session. With the stakes higher and the stacks not being reset like they were being in the other match against VeniVidi, we are probably in for one hell of a show.
