Doug Polk Quits Poker and now Retires his Youtube

New Online Poker Poker News

So whilst Doug has already stated he has retired from Poker he was still occasionally hopping in a tournament or two until he played last years WSOP where he punted off his stack just from a pure lack of interest in being there.

I can’t imagine what this is like personally, but I would imagine it’s the same as the best boxers in the world rising to unknown heights of fame and fortune then not finding any thrill in chasing the victories anymore. Only people who have been to the top of the ladder will know what it’s like.

Quitting Poker was one thing but Doug still has his very successful Poker Training site Upswing Poker which has content from the No Limit Beast Alex “Kanu7” Millar to release and some other bits and pieces, Doug also got involved in a prop bet with Joey Ingram which saw him release 80 videos so he didn’t have to jump out of a plane.

But even after all of this, taking another run at it Doug has confirmed his heart is just not in it anymore. He has released a video where he reminisced at how fun it was to battle in the earlier days of poker and have to figure out your own strategies. Now he says it’s all just percentages and memorising solver information and nowhere near as fun.

“I just don’t like poker anymore. I’m sorry to say that. I really feel like I’m done.”

This is sad news for the Poker world, with Doug being hailed as the crusader for grinders all over the world. He battled the likes of Daniel Neganauru who defended Pokerstars’ constant rake rises and called out anything in the Poker world he saw as unjust. He brought us amazing hand breakdowns, weekly Polker News and so much more!

One of Doug Polk’s finest moments was winning the high roller One Drop ($111,111) event for $3,686,865.00! This was one of three bracelets he took down in Las Vegas. Not bad for a cash game player that hates tournaments.
He might be one of the only players to actually follow through with turning a $10 bankroll into a $10,000 one too and he did it all with a live stream!

What’s Next for the Polk
Doug plans on remaining in the YouTube space but moving completely away from Poker and trying his hand at creating original content and releasing five videos a week.

He has also reached out on twitter looking for writers and comedians to team up with him to help create some of this YouTube gold that will be coming our way soon.

Who knows if YouTube’s recent action on Poker videos has tipped the scales a little where they are now looking to de-monetise gambling videos that don’t break any of the terms of use at all seemingly. Doug will be throwing in the towel on a channel with nearly 300,000 subscribers and videos that regularly get huge amounts of hits.

We wish him well and we are sure to see him around in the content creation space for some time.
