In this post, we are going to test your Push/Fold short stack knowledge, with some shoving spots we will find ourselves in tournament poker very often, knowing what our profitable all-ins are will net us big cash in the long run, so we need this as the basis for our game.
J8s UTG with 10BBs
What do you think about this one… Push or Fold?
The correct move is All-in.
Let’s look at our range in this spot:
We will push all-in with suited connectors like 87s, 98s, T9s, J8s…
The rest of our range is pretty tight from this position though, even with our very short stack we will only be pushing all-in with: QJo+, Q9s+, KTo+ K8s+, A2s+ A8o+
A3o from the Hi-Jack with 10BBs
Another close one… what do you do here? Push or Fold…
This one is very close, but even with antes in play we will be folding this hand, offsuit aces just don’t quite cut the mustard from these earlier positions even with a short stack, let’s look at a correct pushing range from here…
We will push all-in with A4o+ A2s+ KTo+ K7s+ QJo+ Q8s+ JTo+ J8s+ T8s+ 98s+ 87s+
87s from the Cut-Off with 17BBs
How about this suited connector? Are you pushing all-in with 17BBs when this one is folded to you in your games?
This one is a correct All-in…
Let’s look at a pushing range from the CO with this middling to short stack:
We will push all-in with A7o+ A2s+ KTo+ K7s+ QTo+ Q8s+ JTo+ J8s+ T8s+ 98s+ 87s+
This is a very similar range to the hands we will push from early position with a shorter stack, these hands play as good all-ins whether we have 10BBs or 17BBs they will still all do well enough against hands that call us that we can
QJo on Button with 27BBs
How about this offsuit broadway connector from the Button with a fairly sizable 27BBs to play with?
This is a profitable all-in
Many players don’t know that we can jam really wide from the button even with a fairly big stack like 27BBs, but we can due to there being only 2 players left with random hands in the blinds.
Let’s take a look at this range:
So hands like A6o are not all-ins but many broadway combos make good all-ins from this position with a big stack including KTo+ K7s+ QTo+ Q9s+ JTo+ J8s+ T8s+ 98s+ 87s+
The reason for this is simple, our two opponents in the blinds will not be picking up a very good hand too often and even for the times they find a top 20% hand and go with a call then we will still have around 40% equity with these holdings.
47s with 19BBs from the Small Blind
Do you find the All-in with this low suited gaper?
We can move all-in with this one too!
We will have a huge range from the Small blind, so pushing with suited hands even as low as 7 high is going to be profitable, we only have to make one opponent fold to win the blinds and antes!
Our range will include: A2o+ K3o+ K2s+ Q8o+ Q2s+ J8o+ J4s+ T8o+ T5s+ 97o+ 95s+ 85s+ 76o+ 74s+ 64s+ 53s+ 43s+
Sum Up
Hopefully, you learnt something from taking a look at these different ranges, even the best players in the world need to check charts to see if they can push all-in with certain hands.
It’s worth downloading a set of charts or getting an app you can use whilst playing tournaments just for those close decisions that you’re never going to be 100% on during your games.
