A Look at Buehlero’s $70,000 High Roller Knockout Win

New Online PokerPoker Strategy

In case you’re not yet familiar with this talented young Pro, we are going to look at some hands from Henri Buehlero today, he hails from Germany and is currently grinding online and live from his home in Vienna, Austria.

He has amassed near $1million in cashes online and totalling $350,459 in live earnings, recently getting second in a $3,500 deep stack championship event in Las Vegas for a nice $255,938.

He is the living proof that studying pays off, he streams his sessions and study work online on twitch and is really coming into his own from doing the hard work needed for tournament poker, so let’s see if we can learn anything from looking at his spots from this $530 Progressive KO tournament from PokerStars.

Flopping Middle Set

Henri flops middle set here from his UTG open, a dream board with so many Ace high hands in his opponent’s hand, his line in this hand is to check to his opponent on every street and simply call. He states he will win all the money here from his opponent when they have AQ.

Personally I might have got scared of losing value on the river in case my opponent is going to check behind with a one-pair hand but Buehlero sticks with his read of his opponent having a value hand he will Jam the river with and this dream becomes reality when his opponent shows up with AK on the end, a cooler for the Villian here with top two pair getting beat!

Flat Calling with QQ Preflop

Henri opts to smooth call with his pocket queens which has a few huge upsides, he can look to play for all-ins when one of the shorter stacks with large near $2,000 bounties behind move all in.

He also keeps ranges wide and allows his opponents to bluff with worse. As the hand develops he decides he will just call the UTG opponent down, the flop is good for his pocket queens, with no over-cards.

They take the turn heads up where Henri turns a gutshot to add to his equity in the pot, his opponent carries on betting half pot, to which he just smooth calls taking the river.

The river card gives Buehlero a straight. He goes for a 2/3rds pot-sized bet on the River when his opponent checks to him and gets called by a rivered top two pair. So all in all, a great line from Buehlero in this pot, winning very close to the maximum.

Stealing with 72o

72o preflop raise
In this pot we see the German turn up the heat in this blind vs blind hand where he has 72o in a limped pot pre-flop, he 4x raises making it $100,000 to go before the flop.

This will mean that he can turn a poor hand into a winning hand pre-flop, putting our opponent’s middling holdings in a bad spot. Let’s say our opponent has a hand like K5s… they will have a decent amount of equity, but do they want to limp call a large raise and play out of position for the rest of the hand?

When they do find a call as the Villian does in this pot, Buehlero can simply look to bluff them out in an inflated pot post-flop.

The board is pretty good for continuing to bluff as it comes Ace high, Buehlero will have more strong Ace high hands in his range than his opponent will, so betting this flop is a must, he will get a tonne of folds here in the long run… this time though his opponent calls, UH OH!

Turning Some Hope

The turn is the best card in the deck for Buehlero, giving him a double gut-shot straight draw, now any 6 or 3 will give him a straight and most likely the best hand!

When we are bluffing in spots like this it’s important to pile on the pressure on turns that are good for our hand, especially in spots like this with a bounty on the line where we would have to bloat the pot to aim towards a good stack to pot ratio to allow an all-in on the river.

That’s exactly what this aggressive young pro does on this action turn card, betting nearly full pot, the Villian calls and it’s off to the River.

Oh, and it’s a good one! The 3 of diamonds roles off and Buehlero has rivered the wheel. He moves all in and his opponent quickly looks him up with his top pair holding AJo.
