6Plus hand breakdowns (part 3)

New Online PokerPoker Strategy

Part 3 of this installment of 6Plus hands, where we are looking into the strategy behind winning pots in this fun new game! All of the hands are real hands recorded whilst playing on Pokerstars 25NL.

These last two hands are going to be a tale of two stories with the same hand, a monster in any Poker game Ace King (AK) There are going to be times where you are very happy to pile in the money with this hand in any short deck game, as it is a favourite to pairs. However, sometimes it is good to pump the breaks with this holding too! We are going to run through two scenarios showing both sides of this coin.

Pick up the action of these two hands in the video here:

Hand #5

We are dealt A♦ K♥ in first position and we decide to limp, this is a perfect hand that allows for the initial limp into the pot and then a re-raise all in once a player commits some more money, the rest of the table limps behind until the player in the Cut Off position makes it $3 to go out of their $14 stack.

By limping here we have gained information about our opponent’s hands, we have learned that the two players behind us have weak holdings as they have not raised and now we can pounce on the pot now it has $5.50 we can move all in and look to either win the pot right here or play against the single raiser for all the money with a strong hand.

It ends up being the second of these two scenarios that plays out with the original raiser calling off in bad shape with K♦ T♠ Giving them around 37% to win with this dominated hand as our opponent shares a card with our hand.

The board runs out 8♦ J♠ K♠ 7♥ Q♦ bagging us the win and $28.57 for our troubles.

This limp raise allows us to get the hand heads up and play for more money against a weak hand, simply raising here from first position probably would have meant taking a multiway flop and even a hand as AK can be a troublesome hand multiway. This will balance out with other hands that we will limp call or limp fold with, making our plays unpredictable, this is an important part of building your strategy in not only this game but any. You have to remain balanced, playing strong hands how you would play weaker ones and thus remaining unpredictable and tough to play against.

Hand #6

This is the final hand we are going to look at in this series and it goes against the grain of the gamble ethic of this action game, but for good reason.

So the next hand in the same game we have just wagered all of our chips with AKo…
We are dealt A♥ K♥ on the button, a beautiful hand!

The action unfolds, first position, that we have marked as a very tight player opens for $2, a sign of strength from them indeed, with previous action of this nature being only with super strong holdings.

Then UTG+1 moves all in over the top of this bet for $24.25, a full buy-in almost in this 25NL game.

AKs all in

We would have with no doubt at least called the open raise of $2, but this all in now puts a spanner in the works, we didn’t love our hand VS the first opponent, let alone multiway with an all-in.

At this point we only have $0.50 in the pot, so with no fold equity, we decide to lay this down choosing not to call off and hope to win.

Our read of the first opponent ends up being spot on with them tabling pocket Aces to the UTG+1 all in with pocket Jacks.

AKs folded
Whilst AK is a monster in this game, you will always want to note any tighter players that you see only show up with huge hands as these will be players to avoid getting into big confrontations with. So make sure to tag these types of players on your table to remember them for future games.

The other thing that is worth noting here is that reraising all in with pocket Jacks in this game is a bad move, there is not really a good outcome, you are even an underdog to hands like QJs and KQs and quite often you will be getting called by hands like QQ, KK, AA, AK or QK rather than smaller pairs.
